Watercolour Painting - Glorious Gardens

  • Yardley Arts, The Old School Hall The Square, Yardley Hastings Northampton, England, NN7 1EU United Kingdom (map)

Stroll through an enchanted floral pathway…

During this workshop you will create an expressive painting bursting with light and radiant colour capturing a glimpse of a  garden scene.

Students will use wet into wet and wet into dry techniques, limiting the layers and using lively direct brushwork  to keep watercolour fresh and signing from the page. Gain a better understanding of colour mixing and using a limited  palette to avoid dull muddied colours, learn how to mix and use various shades of greens and different tones, strengths and consistencies of colour to bring lightness, harmony and a sense of space and distance to your artworks.

Nicky will demo the stages of a painting and watercolour techniques which you will then use to create your own painting in a vibrant and loose watercolour style, she will give one to one guidance and support to help your painting skills progress and loosen up your style to achieve lively lucid paintings.

You can transfer the tips, tricks and knowledge Nicky offers to many subject matters in watercolour.

About the tutor

Nicky Hunter is a professional water colour artist and tutor specialising in painting florals but inspired by many other colourful and light filled subjects too.  Nicky  teaches regular watercolour workshops in Buckinghamshire & Northamptonshire with a regular following of students who love to learn how to paint florals, birds and other beautiful things from nature, and guest tutorials at other prestigious art schools and art groups around the country . Nicky teaches many styles but the loose and lively watercolour style appeals the most to herself and her students. Her teaching style is enthusiastic and generous and you are sure to enjoy and develop your techniques working with her whether you wish to build on some basic experience and refine your painting skills or liberate them and become freer and more expressive with your water colour  painting.

Nickys love for painting in watercolour and her illustration skills have developed over 20 years designing printed patterns for textiles for the UK and international fashion and interiors market before she returned to her fine art roots in more recent years.

Paintings are radiant ‘realism with a touch of romance', inspired by nature and ignited by colour, capturing the essence of the subject in an impressionistic style. Her painting and illustration skill set is diverse, due to the influence of two decades of designing print patterns for textiles for interiors and fashion, with designs selling globally. Styles range from refined botanical floral studies and graphical illustrations to vibrant, and often large scale, watercolour artworks which she is most known for.
