We are delighted to host Jack Watto’s touring exhibition Art for Planet Earth - eight large paintings which highlight his deep concern for the planet and his desire to make a difference.
“I protest with a paintbrush, as writers and poets do with their pens”
“It’s a concern inside each one of us nowadays about what’s happening to the planet: we can all physically feel and see the change in the world. Art is my way of protesting.” Watto explains.
Two years in the making, Art for Planet Earth is a series of large canvases on the subject of the current global climate emergency and environmental ‘tipping points’ due to climate change: burning of fossil fuels, warming oceans and melting glaciers, loss of biodiversity and infrastructure, sea creatures in crisis, pollution, deforestation and migration.
Jack was a diver for many years working with Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd on undercover investigations of illegal activities, often in dangerous situations, filming newsfeed or documentary footage for the BBC or ITN. He felt he became “the eyes and ears of the sea” and these years saw the beginning of his concern for the changes we are witnessing.
“Art for Planet Earth is about educating people, especially our young people and starting a conversation with the hope of creating a brighter, better future. I plan to tour it to Northampton schools in the next twelve months”.
This touring exhibition can be experienced on many levels. Whether it’s Watto’s incredible talent with oil paints, his ability to communicate the plight of the planet, or to teach you how you can become an activist, there’s something for us all.
Bring your school, your art group, your friends, your colleagues and experience with the unique Jack Watto.
So much more than an art exhibition!
