The Artists

Ophelia Redpath – Winner of Landscape Artist of the Year 2020

Ophelia feels like a wildlife photogapher preparing for the unexpected. She may begin with a plan, but when the players arrive, they evolve on their own.

Setting out as a painter in 1986, she worked on abstract compositions, later moving to figurative pieces in mixed media, eventually settling on a unique type of magic realism in oil on canvas. Seeking to discover the random joy and organic magic offered up by the world, she reaches us through colour and the enigma of light. She is now focusing on elements in our current culture which cage and cloud that magic, therefore highlighting its value.

Her book, The Lemur’s Tale, was nominated in 2014 for the Kate Greenaway Prize for Children’s Literature. In 2020 she received the winner’s award for Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.

Education

1984 – Art Foundation Course. CCAT Cambridge.

1986 – Music and Education. Homerton College, Cambridge.

Review

Ophelia Redpath is the most brilliant artist of her type currently working in Britain. The only question is about what type that is. To my eye, the special field of art that she represents falls into a radiant pocket of the spectrum that runs from illustation to painting, with all the purity and self-sufficiency of the unique painted work of art – Clive James.

Pierre Clements - Paintings collected internationally

Pierre’s objects gather together like actors on a stage, expressive, enigmatic and radiant, each piece playing out a quiet drama upon the canvas. A keen observer of those precise details that bring our daily experience to life, Pierre imparts a dazzling poetry to the material world. Whether it be the way sunlight falls on an empty glass or the way a bowl of fruit can assume an almost human character, Pierre’s paintings are full of visual surprises that take our breath away.

A lifelong painter, Pierre originally trained as a scenic artist in the theatre. In addition to his studio practice, he also works as a decorative artist on commercial and residential projects in the UK and Europe. These include bespoke murals, restoration and gilding. He has exhibited his paintings widely in London and Paris and has work in many private collections in the UK and Europe.
