Handwoven woollen textiles by Irina Mitchell at Yardley Arts

Irina Mitchell, hand-dyed, hand-woven textiles

Irina weaves her art pieces from pure wool in its natural shades or hand-dyed wool in vibrant colours.

Drawing inspiration from nature’s beautiful colours, patterns and shapes, Irina endeavours to create unique pieces of decorative art such as rugs, wall decorations and more wearable pieces like purses and bags. No two pieces are identical, although themes may flow from one piece to another.

“I love tangling colours!” she says. “What I do is really simple – it’s bright, it’s colourful, it’s sometimes abstract and it’s the sort of thing that anybody can do. I am very passionate about sharing my craft. I have opened my studio to host school visits and individual tutees. I love to show and share, provoke creativity and hopefully inspire people to have a go themselves.”

As an artist, she is proud to be a member of the South Northants Art group and exhibit in the Northants Art Trail, where the wider public can see her art and how it’s created.

Private commissions are welcome, she says. Share your favourite colours with her and she’ll tangle them for you!

Come and see her works at Yardley Arts over the next 10 days. The Art Trail starts on Saturday 2 October and runs until Sunday 10 October, from 10.30am to 4.30pm (excluding Monday).
