Tutor Nicky Hunter tells is she is looking forward to a colourful relaunch of watercolour painting classes

This article is in Nicky’s own words:

There is an air of optimism that we are turning a corner and I can soon look forward to sharing my new skills and knowledge from my latest art training when we open our doors again to students at Yardley Arts in May.

I found myself highly motivated through the lockdown taking a break from teaching to work intensively one to one with a very experienced well known artist I had admired for many years, nurturing my own fine art knowledge and skills. Although I’ve stayed connected with my students, sharing photos off artworks in progress and painting demos on my newly launched YouTube channel, I’m raring to inspire students again ‘in person’.

Now more than ever, art has been a real comfort to many. People are rekindling art skills and creative pastimes. They are looking for ways to join local groups, classes and activities to connect with others again socially but also in safe environments, particularly as travelling abroad and other pleasures is restricted for the foreseeable.

My contemporary impressionistic artworks are inspired by nature and ignited by colour. They are often floral based and have a distinctive radiance, and have been sold through local galleries and been the inspiration to teach workshops across the country.

Painting and illustrating florals has developed from over 20 years designing printed and embroidered patterns for international fashion houses and well known ladies fashion brands. Alongside the design element of my career has always run a passion working in the magical medium of watercolour - it’s challenging, yet a joy to explore and develop. I enjoy passing these creative skills and knowledge onto my students.

The watercolour workshops have a following of students of mixed abilities. A friendly and encouraging atmosphere makes it an ideal space to occasionally drop in for some creative inspiration or connect - and regularly create to develop your art practice each month.

I look forward to seeing some of you again soon!
