Winter Wilderness Watercolours
Nicky Hunter, local artist and Yardley Arts’ tutor hosting regular watercolour workshops, will have her artworks on display in a prestigious Norfolk Gallery in January 2022.
Four small watercolours and one large ‘showstopper’ mountain scape painting have been selected for the ‘Harmony’ exhibition at The Gallery Holt, a well regarded gallery that hosts selected contemporary artists including the current David Hockney storyteller etchings collection. Nicky’s work will be exhibited along side 17 other selected artists including members of the RI, SWA and other acknowledged societies. The exhibition explores the theme ‘harmony in landscape’.
Nicky is known principally for her colourful expressive large scale floral artworks , however during the pandemic she chose to take a year out to focus on developing her watercolour skills in a wider range of subjects, believing any colourful subject matter with interesting light has the potential to be a beautiful painting.
She tells us that last winter’s lockdown brought the feeling of isolation and trepidation yet a cosseting blanket of tranquility and calm due to the static nature, which vast majestic snow covered mountains also bring. Coupled with the apposing craving to be released from the grounded situation resulted in transporting herself to fantasy snowscapes and lands afar through painting. She developed a range of dramatic snowscapes with atmospheric skies and explored the essential contrasts in a composition depicting snow, balancing lights and darks, smooth undulations versus texture and warmth with cool.
If you’re in Norfolk in the New Year, do go along and have a look. The exhibition runs from 15 January to 22 February 2022. It’s a fabulous gallery too!
